About Our Organization

The Down Syndrome Information Alliance (DSIA) is a community organization dedicated to providing resources and support to families, therapists, physicians, educators and others affected by Down syndrome in Northern California and improving access to the most advanced and innovative care to promote health, education and independence. The programs and events that we offer to accomplish our goals are: Hospital Outreach, providing health care professionals with factual and current information for their professional development and the families they serve; New Family Support, providing new and expectant parents with a comprehensive Parent Guide and support; Community Networks, regular get togethers in local communities for the entire family (Sacramento, Placer, Folsom, West Sacramento, Woodland/Davis); Knowledge Network, periodic educational forums for families and professionals; Education, annual sponsorship of families and professionals to attend the National Down Syndrome Congress convention; Social Events, periodic social activities for the whole family; Special Events, annual special events for the DSIA and the larger community to raise program funds while increasing awareness about the abilities of people with Down syndrome; Public Awareness, proactive outreach with local media to eliminate stigma and misconceptions and respond to negative portrayals of people with Down syndrome; Advocacy, collaboration with local, state, regional and national organizations to review policies affecting the quality of life for people with Down syndrome and other disabilities; Outreach, periodic presentations to varied professionals to improve family/professional partnerships and increase awareness about the abilities of people with Down syndrome.
